Driving in heavy fog is dangerous, especially for motorcyclists, so it is best not to continue driving in heavy fog. It is important not to stop in the left lane, or any part of the road that is used by traffic, since vehicles approaching from behind may not be able to see you in time to stop.

In a situation like this, braking probably won't prevent the motorcyclist from hitting the vehicle ahead. The best solution is to move quickly out of the vehicle's path. Do this with counter-steering (leaning your motorcycle in the direction you want to go). It isn't safe to apply only the front brakes when braking quickly; always use both front and back brakes together.

It is important to check tire pressure regularly, especially when driving in colder weather.

The "advanced" green arrow at an intersection allows drivers to turn in a direction that may otherwise be too difficult to proceed due to oncoming traffic.

It is best to drive around objects on the road, but if you are unable to do so, use special care when driving over the object. Grip the handlebars firmly, maintain a straight path, and use the footrests to rise slightly above the seat. To protect the front suspension somewhat, apply the throttle, but only slightly. After testing the braking system, study the controls of the motorcycle. Placement and functions of controls can vary; it is important to be acquainted with those of a new motorcycle before driving it.

Every vehicle using public roads in Ontario must have a legal license plate. Drivers are required to carry proof of insurance as well as the vehicle permit for the vehicle being driven.

Even when stopped at an intersection it is important to be aware of other drivers and take appropriate action as needed to avoid collisions.

It is illegal for M1 drivers to carry passengers at any time. Passengers are never permitted on mopeds.

It is important to maintain proper posture on the motorcycle in order to steer properly and maintain balance and speed. Low placement of the wrists ensures speed is not increased mistakenly; it also enables the rider to reach the front brake lever more effectively.

A license plate and a vehicle permit are required to register a motorcycle. The vehicle permit contains an exact description of the motorcycle; any change to the appearance of the motorcycle must be registered.

Traction and braking ability are greatly affected by the condition of the tires on a motorcycle. The tire tread should be a minimum depth of 1.5 mm, and should be even. If uneven tread wear is observed, the tire and motorcycle should be inspected to determine the cause, and any necessary repairs should be made.

When starting a motorcycle on an uphill incline, it is important to apply the front brakes gently, then shift into first gear in order to prevent stalling or rolling backwards.
